RACE course

Race course design philosophy

We look for locations that offer a variety of terrain, dramatic vistas and viewpoints, and are naturally spectacular. Locations must provide access for placing obstacles, present a variety of design capabilities/ options, and enable us to move competitors, spectators, obstacles and equipment fluidly and safely.

Course elements

Course elements vary from 9′ walls and 1/4 pipes, to steep ascents, fast descents, narrow trail runs and everything in between (did we mention mudd?!). We strive to design and construct a balanced course, that provides optimum challenge to participants, while being tough, yet achievable for all levels of competitor. Obstacles are architecturally designed (literally), construction is supervised by carpenters where appropriate, and all courses are tested, then refined, then tested again.

About our course designer

Greg Clarke has been designing adventure race courses and challenge elements for over 12 years, including his time as an Army Cadet trainer and mountain leader in Ireland. His experience as a seasoned adventure racer and mountain runner, along with a “it’s my island” (read Brave Heart) type of philosophy, ensures exacting standards, consistent elements of challenge, while always looking at the course from a “safety first” viewpoint.
